The yard of the former prison consists of a block of buildings between Cejl, Bratislavská and Soudní streets; it is a unique complex and one of the best-preserved prisons in the Europe. The late Baroque buildings should be a basic element of the proposed concept, as well as the late Classicist annex of the courthouse in Cejl Street. The removal of unsuccessful later outbuildings on Bratislavská Street is the most significant part of the new design. We do propose here the entrance to the complex, the entry piazzetta is complemented by a new multi-purpose building for exhibitions, lectures and workshops.Read more
Modifications of the Baroque complex are considered to be the sensible act, authenticity is important to us. The story of both courts has a certain symbolic significance, we propose to keep the East Court in contact with the death row and the museum; the modifications are considerate. The West Court on the contrary becomes an active part of the new cultural function of the prison; we place here a multi-purpose hall with upper daylight.
The project won 2nd prize in an architectural competition.
